We are seeking a talented and experienced VFX Houdini Pipeline TD to join our team in Sydney, Australia. As a Pipeline TD, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the Houdini pipeline and toolset used in our visual effects production. You will work closely with the VFX artists, supervisors, and other technical departments to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow throughout the entire production process. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will be crucial in delivering high-quality visual effects on time and within budget.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Houdini pipeline, tools, and workflows to support the production needs of the VFX team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of CG and VFX Supervisors to identify and address technical challenges and requirements.
  • Write and optimise Houdini scripts, tools, and plugins to streamline the production pipeline and improve efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and debug technical issues related to Houdini, including performance optimisation and rendering problems.
  • Create documentation and provide training to artists on the proper use of pipeline tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with other technical departments (e.g., software development, rendering, and compositing) to integrate and maintain cross-departmental workflows.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and techniques in VFX and Houdini, and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Assist in the implementation of versioning, data management, and asset tracking systems.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide feedback, and enforce coding standards within the pipeline team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Houdini and its underlying programming language, Python.
  • Solid understanding of visual effects workflows, techniques, and best practices.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining VFX pipelines using Houdini in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming (Python, PySide/Qt, etc.) to automate tasks and create custom tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with artists, supervisors, and other technical departments.
  • Knowledge of render farm management and distributed computing is desirable.
  • Familiarity with other VFX software packages (e.g., Maya, Nuke) and their integration with Houdini is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
